Effects of Multicomponent Physical Exercise Programs on Physical Fitness in People with Intellectual Disabilities: A Systematic Review

People with intellectual disabilities (ID) have high rates of overweight and obesity, heart metabolic diseases, low motor development. These factors compromise functional independence autonomy in activities daily living. The objective this study was to clarify the design implementation multicomponent physical exercise programs (MPEPs) evaluate their effects on fitness people ID. A search for scientific articles English published before 2022 conducted using Web Science, PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct databases. Scientific papers describing MPEPs ID were considered. total 374 involving included. Positive outcomes found interventions its morphological components a lesser extent motor, muscular, metabolic, cardiorespiratory aspects Further research is needed standardize elucidate MPEP other dimensions use them as activity alternative reduce sedentary behavior
